Lyn has achieved something quite exceptional: her personality is
apparent in every detail of the house and the garden, but at the same
time she allows you to be what you are! No small feat. You really feel
at home, everything is there to use. You are well taken care of without
being smothered: freedom and respect are the key values.
Our room was
very spacious, a king sized bed, excellent bathroom with a wealth of
scented candles, lotions and aroma therapy products, fluffy towels
(always warm and clean).
Breakfast was gorgeous: a fabulous fruit
salad, exquisite yoghurt with honey, famous Craster kippers, every
cooked breakfast you could possibly want, very good coffee (says a
Belgian coffee addict).
Massage is highly recommendable (the best ever!). Extremely relaxing.
For us it was a revelation (and we have been to many a B&B).
Do go and discover this gem in Callaly!

"Hospitality at its best”
No sooner than we parked the car, Lyn was out to welcome us, show us our
room and provide us with all we needed. The guest sitting room was a
home from home, with guidebooks, games, etc and our room, spacious,
comfortable, clean and tastefully decorated. The bed was large,
comfortable; the bathroom complete with aromatherapy home made products
and the breakfast the next day the best I've had Anywhere! Fab fruit
salad and yoghurt with honey, cereals..... all you could want for.

Callaly is a great location for exploring Northumberland & the
Borders region, but there's some fantastic local walks too, my favourite
being up to the Iron Age Fort. Take good maps though as the paths are
not well worn!
Lyn is the best hostess anyone can want and has a
great knowledge of the area, and helped us plan some memorable days out.
She really goes overboard making sure we didn't want for anything.
are extremely comfortable with great views of the immediate
countryside, breakfast will see you through to the evening, don't miss
out on Lyn's fruit salad which is something special.
This is our
second visit, this time for a week and we can't wait to get back for
another time, you really feel your batteries recharge at this retreat.

We woke to a field of Jacob's sheep, birds, trees, flowers and wonderful
skyscapes...and that was all without getting out of the hugely
Our welcome began with tea, coffee and scrumptious
biscuits in the garden. It extended to the most lovely breakfast we have
ever had in a B&B. We were pampered with an enormous bath and great
shower, candles to create a relaxing atmosphere, comfy armchairs in the
bedroom and a host of reading material...magazines and books.
room, and the whole house was simply yet beautifully decorated.
Everything was spotless and the location was great as a base for trips
to the coast and local places of interest. We will come again and spend
more time walking out from the B&B into the fabulous countryside
outside the door. This is a special place...somewhere for the body, mind
and soul. Lyn has a gift of genuine hospitality. That is rare.

"We are sooo relaxed"
Lovely stay, made to feel very welcome, fantastic location and used it as a base for going out to both the coast and the local countryside. Fantastic area. Relaxed, clean, informal, friendly house and loved the added bonus of having a massage whilst we were there. Lyn was excellent and 4 months later I am still feeling the benefits on my shoulder. We could only stay 4 days - fully booked so we did not have the option to stay longer!

We have no reservations whatsoever in recommending 'Lyn's Place' as the
ideal spot for a Northumbrian holiday. Her welcome was warm and we felt
at ease straight away. Clean and comfy beds with a spotless bathroom of
majestic proportions. We had the use of a lovely big room downstairs
which looked out onto a large lawn with bird feeding station at it's
centre. From the breakfast table one morning we saw spotted woodpeckers
at least five times. I could write a whole review of the breakfast
alone! You must try the fresh fruit salad. What a range of tastes and
textures. On seeing the size of the plate I cancelled my porridge!
Excellent cooked breakfast too with everything done just as I like it.
Callaly Cottage is a perfect base with the sea less than thirty minutes
drive away and the hills even closer. Lots of quiet walks just out of
the door too.
"A lovely B&B in a quite location".
Our host was friendly and breakfasts were hearty and of a good portion. As there are only two rooms you have the chance to chat to the other guests over breakfast and swap ideas and experiences of places to visit. Also guests were required to wear slippers in the house which made the experience much more homely. The rooms are large with thoughtful personal touches such as scented candles and bespoke furniture.
The view from our bedroom was over a small field inhabited by a quiet flock of sheep which were great to watch along with the large variety of wild birds who came visiting.
Places to eat and visit are not too far and our host had great knowledge of the area.
The stay was good value for the location and luxury on offer. Well recommended, and a return visit is a must!

"A totally fabulous short break!"
We had never before holidayed in Northumbria and used this short holiday to visit its many scenic and historical highlights. Callaly Cottage Retreat could not have been a better base to use, as its name implies! We received a warm welcome, enjoyed the high quality of the cottage and luxuriated in the comfortable bed and bathroom!
The views from the cottage are just lovely and the remoteness helped us to simply unwind. Lyn did everything to look after us and the breakfasts truly helped!
Liked Relaxing in the candlelit bathroom after a hard days walking!
Disliked Leaving Callaly!

"Tranquil retreat in the countryside near the coast"
We had a very peaceful and refreshing weekend in this cottage B&B, with a warm welcome and great breakfasts! It is a good base for walking and exploring the Northumbrian coast and countryside - we did a bit of both - and I also found it comfortable and relaxing to stay in and around the house and garden. It is a beautiful house in lovely countryside. There were thoughtful touches like the range of teas etc (with fresh milk) in the room, nice bathroom supplies and rugs for sitting out in the garden.

"A charming, idyllic country cottage, very relaxing and peaceful area with lovely views."
We had a lovely few days at the cottage. We received a very warm welcome from Lyn and the cat. The garden has a bird table which was full of birds all day long and swallows were nesting in the porch. A bird lovers treat! From the moment you arrive Lyn cannot do enough for you, the whole stay was just very relaxing with tasty breakfasts every morning and a very large, comfortable bed to fall into at night. Everything is spotlessly clean, just perfect! Just what we needed.

Comfortable, relaxing and very well informed host, a veritable mile of information about the area. First visit to the north east, what a pleasant surprise - will definitely return and book callaly retreat. Totally welcoming and friendly, made it feel like home.

"Excellent country venue for a quiet relaxing short holiday"
We had a wonderful time here with a large comfortable en suite room. Breakfasts were well above average for a B & B, including mouthwatering kippers. Our hosts went out of their way to see that we were well catered for.
Quiet location with lots of bird song in the background. The bedroom was big and well furnished whilst the bathroom too was big with a sunken bath. A large dining room with an array of books.

"A wonderful retreat!"
A really enjoyable few days in a comfortable, friendly, well-equipped b&b with everything one might need and set in beautiful countryside. A very warm welcome - we felt at ease immediately. The rooms were spacious and clean, the water always hot, information was readily available - altogether first class.

"A superb location with friendly hosts and top quality accommodation"
Although just a few miles from local towns you do feel that this is a remote and peaceful situation, with excellent views and good walking from the doorstep. We felt most welcome.
